My first babysitter

Mom and Dad had a date night on Saturday. I got to stay at Grandma and Grandpa Moriarty's They did a wonderful job as my first babysitters! Mom trusted them so much that she didn't even call half way through the night. Mom and Dad said that they enjoyed the evening away! However, I know they were happy to see me, because they were fighting over who got to hold me first! I don't mind them going out without me as long as they leave me with such good babysitters!

The picture to the left is actually from Tuesday 2/16. Grandpa Fig gave me a tractor to play with (see center of picture) so we took a photo with me, the tractor and Grandpa in his Farmall sweatshirt! Grandpa is working on how he is going to have me safely strapped into the tractor for Spring and Fall farm work.

Baby Shower

Mom's co-workers threw me my first baby shower. I was hit! She has wonderful friends who didn't set me down for a minute. They game me tons of compliments! They say I have my mom's nose, but I look like my Daddy. I guess I am the perfect combination of both! They were very generous as well. I know have my lamb themed cradle and swing-Daddy calls it "Dolly" after the cloned lamb. I also got a bouncy chair, lots of pink clothes, a pack-n-play, toys and so much more. I don't even know how to say thank you...I guess mom is going to have to thank them for me. I was so tuckered out from my day that I slept for 8 straight hours that night. Mom was nervous when she woke up at 6 and I hadn't make a peep. She came into my room to make sure I was breathing. She is such a worrier, I was just tired.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I almost rolled over on Thursday. I got all the way from my tummy to my right side. I simply needed to shift my weight to my left shoulder and I would have been over! I'll keep working on it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Check out our Family Photo! It was my first St. Patrick's day. Daddy kept talking about a green beer, but I guess I am a bit young for something like that. Grandma Barb gave us the cutest card...it has a picture of me on the outside. (O.K. it isn't really me, but has a striking similarity with my spikey red hair!

Daddy Day Care

On Wednesday, March 17 Daddy was in charge. Mom went to class for the day so I just hung out with Daddy. We did some of daddy's homework, played video games and went for a walk. Uncle Thomas threw a curve ball at Dad because he had a house showing for the day. Not only did Daddy have to watch me, but he had to make sure we kept the house clean and weren't home when the potential buyers came through.

Mom says that he did a great job! Both Grandma's had to call Wednesday evening to see how Daddy did. Silly grandmas...Daddy is a great daddy!

Happy Birthday Immy!

O.K. yesterday we spent the day thinking about how we were supposed to be going into have a baby...yesterday (3-10-10) was our scheduled C-section date! Well that was mom's plan anyway. I am my own person so I turned two weeks old today (3-11-10). Happy Birthday to me! Dad wonders why mom is wishing me a happy birthday, he must not realize that two weeks is a long time for me. I continue to sleep most of the time. I usually have a 2-4 hour wakeful period during the day and then another about 1AM. I have been taking my formula really well, so Mom and Dad are letting me be in control of my own hunger at night. I just fuss a bit and Mom comes to my rescue. Dad on the other hand, continues to snore. Sometimes our dog Beulah checks in as well!

Next week is a big week at our house. We have plans almost every day! It will be an adventure! The most exciting happen on Friday. Mom's work friends are having a baby shower and then Dad's best friend Ben and his fiancee Maggie are coming to visit! I am sure I will have plenty of stories to share!

Going for a walk

It was a beautiful day on Saturday so Mom asked Dad if we could go on a family walk. It turns Dad wanted to go for a walk on Friday, but Mom said I wasn't old enough. I guess, one day makes a big difference when you are only 9 days old! I think Mom is getting stir crazy! They got me in my car seat/stroller. Mom wanted to make sure I was warm so she bundled me up with warm clothes and an extra blanket It turns out that the car seat cover that Grandma Barb gave me keeps me pretty warm! I was sweating by the time I got home! I hope Mom figures out temperature balance at some point!

Belly Button!

I am one step closer to being a big girl soon...My umbilical cord fell off today! I am growing up fast!

Family Time

Grandpa Maurie and Grandma Barb were able to come out on Saturday. It had been a while since Grandpa had been able to visit because Grandpa had been feeling under the weather. We made up for it on Saturday night. I was wide awake for Grandpa so we got to have some quality time making faces at each other.

Sunday brought more family. Grandpa Fig and Grandma Linda came for a visit. It had been over a week since I got to see Grandpa...I think he was feeling a bit deprived. They brought an extra special person with them to visit--Great Grandpa Wendell. It had been a long time since Great Grandpa had held a baby so small. I think he was afraid that he could break them. We were able to take a four generation picture.

Daddy's Bath time!

Friday night, Daddy took his turn at bath time! He did a fantastic job! He moved quickly and kept me warm. he was hoping to put a curly in my hair, but mom said no. Instead I ended up with spikes all over! I am one hot little girl!

Our first outing

We had big plans for Imogen's one week birthday...we were going to go up to the clinic/hospital for an appointment and to meet some of Mom's friends! We started at out my first doctor's appointment. I had to have a minor procedure. I think Mom and Dad were more nervous than I. I was amazing...I cried for like 7 seconds and moved on with my life. I am feeling back to myself already. We next went back to where it all began...the birth center. Mom talked to a specialist about getting my feeding routine figured out...I guess I am being a challenge. I didn't know! We will have to work on it together. Next up was a trip to Med/Surg. The nurses and staff heard us coming and quickly make their ways into the hall to catch a glimpse of me. I am royalty up there!

Mom and Dad were supposed to show the house at 4pm, but the people showed up at 3:20. They made a mad dash to get me and a few things together and out of the house we went. We got my birth certificate notarized and met some of the Daddy's bank friends. When we returned home, we realized that we forgot the keys in our mad dash. Back in the car we went. Uncle Thomas came to the rescue by letting us in. Madeline came back and did a wonderful job of feeding Imogen and holding her with love and support. It was beautiful!

My First Bath

On Tuesday, March 2, 2010; we embarked on the adventure of Imogen's first bath! We had our bath teaching when we were at the hospital, but didn't know how it would go on our own. We got the towel ready, the basin set up and the space heater running. We didn't want our little girl to catch a chill. It took two people to bath her and one person to take pictures! She took it like a champion! The only thing...David decided to sculpt her hair into a mohawk. We have have learned that when you do that after bath time it sticks wither for a while! She even had her posed baby pictures in mohawk style! Oh boy! David just told me "everybody likes a baby mohawk!" We will see if she has one in 15 years and it is dyed purple what he says!

From the Beginning

Let me tell you the story from the Mom's perspective. Thursday, February 25, 2010, changed our lives forever. One minute David and I were happily walking into Perkins for a nice breakfast together when suddenly I was overtaken by a gush of water. David remained amazingly calm as he said "well then we should go. You should call the hospital to tell them you are coming." I made the call and they said that I would have time to go home and pack my bag. David laughed and said that is what he has been telling me to do for two weeks. I kept saying "I am not supposed to have a February baby...I have so many things to do."

When we arrived at the hospital, the nurses and staff did a quick assessment and reported that I would indeed have to have a c-section as planned do to the fact that Imogen was breech. We called our families to tell them that we would be having a baby today...all were surprised! The nurses wheeled me away and left David waiting in the wings. He got nervous when his 5 minute wait took a bit longer. When he was allowed into the room he came and sat by my side. I remember him holding my hand and looking into my eyes. I will never forget the love in his eyes. The doctor announced that she was a girl and I started to cry. David didn't want to leave my side, but I told him to go be with his daughter. He got up and did just that. He went over, took pictures and even cut her umbilical cord (even though he had been telling me for months that he wouldn't be able to do it)! He never left her side as the nurses brought her into the nursery and got her cleaned up for life in the "real world". David's parents arrived soon after Imogen arrived to the nursery and my parents arrived soon after that. Grandparents were fighting over who was going to hold the baby, when David said "I get to hold her first"! It was the first time he had to fight over his daughter, but it definitely won't be the last!

Our parents were able to be around quite a bit for the first few days which was wonderful. We loved being surrounded by those who loved us and Imogen the most!
Jess will be taking over the baby blog. Although she does not anticipate writing on a daily manner she will do the best that she can to keep people informed. As for myself I will continue my writing in private and make special memories for Imogen. I want to be able to share all of my feelings and thoughts without the need of censorship or alter my language in order to protect Imogen's personal info. After all, I will just be using a different medium, an artist would not realize they could paint if all they do is sculpt. Please stay tune for the fun and crazy Imogen adventures that Jess will post.

The Mom's perspective!

All right it is my turn to share my thoughts. As you can imagine, Imogen was a wonderful interruption to my perfectly planned life! After my water broke, I kept saying "she wasn't supposed to come until March 10!" I had plans...Imogen decided she should be the most important of all of these plans and she is right! I love to simply look at her. She looks amazing if you ask me! She makes all of these cute little faces. My favorite is known as "birdy" it means that she is hungry. Imogen and I are currently trying to figure out the feeding schedule. She is the first Nuytten-Moriarty to lose weight unexpectedly! We she is now on a routine, which we are all trying to adjust to! Say a little prayer for us! Beulah likes to watch over us when Imogen is eating. She is being a very protective sister!

I am feeling pretty good! I went for a walk this afternoon. It was nice to get some fresh air. I am having my first beer in 9 months tonight. I might be speaking in tongues soon or at least extremely relaxed!
